Explanation on Changes in NZQA English Test Requirements due to COVID-19

Due to current COVID-19 restrictions many English language proficiency testing centres are closed until official restrictions are lifted.

In recognition of the limitations caused by the current Alert Level 4 COVID-19 restrictions in New Zealand, NZQA considers that until face-to face testing resumes the online form of the tests listed in the Table to Rule 18 can be accepted by providers as sufficient proof of English language proficiency for international students present in New Zealand who wish to transition between programs or providers.

If an education provider has made an offer of a place to an international student, and that student’s English language proficiency result was valid at the time the offer of a place was made, that student does not need to sit another English language proficiency test if their result expires before their deferred start date, providing the deferment is within twelve months of their original offer of a place.
