The great majority of New Zealands electricity comes from Hydro electric plants. The largest of these is the Manapouri power scheme. About 10% of its electricity goes to the national grid, with the remainder going to the Aluminium smelter at Awarua, near Bluff. The Huntly Station is mainly fired from coal and gas, and supplies about 1500MW.
