When INZ start to allow border exceptions for certain job industries (hopefully next year) it will be important that you are prepared and ready to go. I’ve talked about this in other posts. LinkedIn is used widely in NZ and is a critical tool in every jobseeker’s toolkit, INCLUDING overseas job hunters.

:x: Make sure you update and optimise your LinkedIn profile and understand how to interact with the platform, this WILL increase your chances of being noticed and making an impression.

Pointers:

:white_check_mark: Display a professional photo
:white_check_mark: Keep your profile up to date with newly acquired skills or trainingx
:white_check_mark: Add SEO keywords in your heading to help employers and recruiters find you
:white_check_mark: Network – join groups and reach out to valuable contacts building professional relationships THIS IS WHERE THE MAGIC HAPPENS :tada:
:white_check_mark: Get recommended - reach out to people you have worked with previously and ask them to write you a recommendation
:white_check_mark: Get endorsed - like LinkedIn recommendations, get endorsed for your skills
:white_check_mark: Get active - establish yourself as a thought leader by sharing articles that will be of interest to people in your field and comment on posts.
:white_check_mark: Make a list of companies you would like to work for, then follow their updates on LinkedIn
