Main banks: ANZ (largest), ASB, BNZ, Westpac, Kiwibank (NZ-owned). All offer similar everyday accounts. You can start the process online before arriving — ANZ and ASB let you open accounts from overseas. You need: passport, visa, NZ address, IRD number. Get your IRD number at ird.govt.nz ASAP — you need it for tax. For low/no fees, check Kiwibank or ASB Savings accounts. Wise (transferwise) is good for international transfers.
