NZ has four seasons (opposite to Northern Hemisphere). Sunniest: Nelson/Marlborough (2,400+ sunshine hours). Warmest: Northland, Bay of Plenty, Gisborne. Auckland is mild but rainy (1,200mm/year). Wellington is windy. Christchurch has hot summers and cold winters. South Island is colder. Snow is mainly in mountains, rarely at sea level. Summers (Dec-Feb): 20-30°C. Winters (Jun-Aug): 5-15°C in the north, 0-10°C in the south. Always carry a layer — "four seasons in one day" is real.
